Antique Italian Brass Pocket Sundial


Offered for sale is a very rare antique Italian Brass Pocket Sundial in outstanding condition, measuring 2 1/2" x 1" x 1/4". On the top of the sundial when the lid is closed is a an standing on a raft with a pole and gives the appearance and impression of a sailor navigating his way on a raft holding a push pole.

Around the outside are the following engraved letters: 'TEMPUS - RERVM - IMPERATOR' and 'TRANSIT - HORA - SINE - MORA' which is written in Italian.

On the inside of the sundial are the roman numerals I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX X XI and XII representing the hours on the click.

On the inside of the sundial is the lever acting as the sundial on a hinge in a triangular shape measuring about 1" x 1/2".

The entire top view to the right) folds and closes with a catch to the left of the picture. To the right, hidden by the open top is scrolling with a loop to place the instrument on a fob.

On the back of the instrument is an engraved compass. The instrument is in excellent condition with no damage, loses or injuries.
